Valle Monte League has awarded a $10,000 grant to First Place for Youth in support of its My First Place program in Santa Clara County, which helps young adults transitioning out of foster care build the skills and stability needed for independent living.

The My First Place program provides housing and individualized case management to foster youth ages 18–25. Most participants enter the program having experienced frequent moves during their time in care, often attending multiple schools and living in several placements. These disruptions can leave young adults unprepared for the challenges of adulthood, particularly in high-cost areas like the Bay Area.

The funding from Valle Monte League helped cover the cost of a Youth Advocate—an experienced clinician who provides case management and mental health support to program participants. The advocate plays a key role in helping youth work toward educational goals, find employment, and maintain stable housing. The program also uses a trauma-informed approach to address underlying emotional and mental health challenges that may affect progress.

In the past six months, First Place for Youth served 61 young people through the My First Place program in Santa Clara County. Among those who participated:

  • 75% who spent at least 12 months in the program exited to stable housing

  • 90% were pursuing or had obtained their high school diploma or GED

  • 77% of eligible youth enrolled in college or postsecondary education

  • 79% found employment

Valle Monte League’s support helped ensure these outcomes by strengthening direct services and providing youth with the consistency and support they need to move forward.
